New Linux Journal Article: WebOS 2.1 - Give It a Spin with Emulation Through the WebOS SDK!

The kind folks at Linux Journal have published another article that I've written. Hooray! This article is about installing the HP/Palm WebOS 2.1 SDK for the purposes of trying out the operating system in Ubuntu.

HP may be on to something with WebOS, but the only way to figure that out is by having more people interact with it and figuring out if it is worth spending time using. Give it a whirl. If you like it, great! If you don't, that's cool, too.

New Linux Journal Video: Split-pane file browsing in Ubuntu 10.04

Linux Journal recently published a tutorial video of mine showing you how to enable split-pane file browsing in Nautilus using Ubuntu 10.04

Another item of note: pressing F3 a second time brings you back to a single pane, with the folder in focus taking up the whole window, making the other folder vanish.

Changing around the window buttons in Ubuntu 10.04 with gconf-editor

Linux Journal recently released a great tutorial video about using gconf-editor to move around the window buttons in Ubuntu 10.04, from their Mac-like upper left default to the previous upper right default that was present in previous versions. Props to Kris Occhipinti for the video.

As a warning, manually editing this preference may have adverse issues if you plan on changing themes. Other options exist, such as downloading themes with the default options already changed.

New Linux Journal Article: Working with Windows XP in Linux using VirtualBox

A lot of the volunteer work that I do involves working with the Windows XP operating system. Recently, I needed to configure a server that was originally running on Win XP and needed to continue to function as an XP machine. I was able to do that in Linux using VirtualBox, and Linux Journal's website published the article here.

I'm preparing to don flame retardant clothing, as there is a high potential for an ensuing flame war on the site ;)

New Linux Journal Article: Custom Transitioning Wallpaper backgrounds in Gnome

I was recently published on Linux Journal about creating a slideshow that runs as a background in the Gnome desktop environment.
